Calais refugee camp evacuation completed

The evacuation of the makeshift refugee camp near the northern French Calais is completed Wednesday.

The eviction and demolition of the immigrant settlement began more than two weeks ago. Initially met with the demolition of protest and resistance, but it ended the police.

In tents and shacks camp had gathered a thousand asylum seekers, according to the authorities hoped to travel to Britain. Aid organizations estimate the population of the Jungle higher. The migrants often tried there to climb on trucks that were to the Channel Tunnel or to get aboard ferries on the way.
