Businessman Babis wins elections in the Czech Republic

The controversial populist and billionaire Andrej Babis is the clear winner of the parliamentary election in the Czech Republic.

The second party appears to be the right-radical SPD of entrepreneur Tomio Okamura, with about 11 percent of the votes. The ruling Social Democrats (CSSD) experienced a debacle of 7.5 percent of the votes according to the preliminary results. (2013: 20.5 percent).

The turnout was about the same as in 2013 by about 60 percent.
