Bulgarians block border Turkey

Bulgarian nationalists have blocked Tuesday crossings with Turkey.

Tuesday Bulgarians go to the polls. The Nationalists expect at the border that a thousand buses come with voters from Turkey to Bulgaria. Only cars were left at a border crossing.

About 10 percent of the Bulgarian population is of Turkish origin. Since the time of the Ottoman Empire live in the north and southeast of Bulgaria many Turks. In the communist era left more than 300 000 Turks Bulgaria- sometimes under pressure- to return to Turkey.

Sofia Ankara complains that it interferes with the Bulgarian parliamentary elections.\n  \n   \n    \n    \n   \n   \n   \n      \n   \n     The leader of the conservative GERB party and former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.\n    \n   \n     Photo: AFP
