British media watchdog directs arrows at RT

The British media watchdog Ofcom is considering the license of the Russian news channel RT.

Parliamentarians have called on Ofcom to get the station out of the air. The watchdog stated in a statement that it has the duty to check whether license holders are 'suitable'. Ofcom said that further announcements from Prime Minister May were to be awaited. 'Then we will see what the consequences are for RT's broadcast licenses,' according to The Guardian.

RT, the former Russia Today, reacted angrily to the commotion. 'It is unfortunate to see that RT is pushed forward as soon as a political pawn to be sacrificed,' a spokesperson told the newspaper. 'With that, the press freedom in the United Kingdom is pushed aside in one blow. '
