British Lord declared dead after more than 40 years

A court in London has gone lord declared dead after more than forty years, so his son can now take his title.

Lord Lucan disappeared on November 7, 1974 shortly after the lifeless body of the nanny of his three children had been discovered in his house in central London. She was murdered. His disappearance was never solved.

His son George Bingham began legal proceedings to have him declared dead and thus able to take the title. Wednesday's statement was issued on the basis of a law that took effect in 2014. Bingham can call himself now Lord Bingham. He is the eighth Earl of Lucan.
