British government asks EU to divorce

The British government said Wednesday in Brussels official EU membership.

Relying on Article 50 of the EU Treaty London put the divorce in motion. That article states that a Member State is not an EU member exactly two years after the withdrawal request, whether there is an agreement on the separation conditions or not.
