Blood emulsion purification action Nigeria

Heavy pollution caused by the Nigerian blood oil fries threatens to negate all Dutch efforts to restore health to the Niger Delta affected by an oil disaster.

In 2008, the Bodo delta area was hit hard by two leaks in a Shell oil pipeline. Thanks in part to the intensive mediation of the then Dutch Ambassador Bert Ronhaar, the clean-up action in 2015 under threat of violence came to a standstill.

But in the meantime a large part of the cleaned mangrove swamp has become heavily polluted again to the despair of the cleaning teams. A sloop of the criminals filled with stolen crude oil sank after intervention by the army.
