Belgian sperm whale makes Germans sweat

An action by a Belgian artists' collective, a 17-meter-long plastic sperm whale, to be placed on a beach in Zingst on the German Baltic coast, caused quite a lot of swell next Friday.

On Friday morning the government in Zingst took out a real press release, photo including, about a stranded sperm whale. Tourists had discovered the animal, scientists had been torn out in sheltered clothing to examine the marine mammal.

Only after a while did the dead sperm whale appear to be ripped from the pot, and owed its existence to the art collective Captain Boomer. Even the 'scientists' were not real: they were actors.

According to the mayor of Zingst, Andreas Kuhn, the action took place in the framework of 'Horizonte', a festival of environmental photographs. The plastic sperm whale, which must be a charge against the pollution of the sea, remains in principle until June 3 on the beach. But the organizers of the festival may have a police investigation and a fine over the head.
