Belgian eggs safe for consumption

Consuming eggs in Belgium is safe.

There is therefore no warning to the public not to eat eggs. About one and a half weeks ago, it was known that inspectors of the FAVV had found the insecticide in some eggs.

On July 20, the agency informed other countries about the possible presence of the illegal product in eggs. 'Suspected' eggs have been destroyed and the trade of a number of Flemish poultry companies has been blocked.

According to the Antwerp parquet, Poultry-Vision van Weelde, which supplies products for poultry diseases, has fipronil mixed with an antidiabetic agent that is allowed. Poultry-Vision also delivered to the Dutch company ChickFriend hired by Dutch poultry farmers to fight blood lice.
