Ayatollah escapes German justice

The Iranian cleric Mahmud Hashemi Shahrudi, who was prosecuted for crimes against humanity in Germany, has left this country in haste.

Shahrudi spent several days in Hanover for a medical treatment at the Iranian-German neurosurgeon Majid Samii. Activists who got rid of it immediately filed a complaint against him. The ayatollah flew back to Tehran from the airport in Hamburg on Thursday.

The Public Prosecution Service in Karlsruhe stated that it had no legal means to stop Shahrudi. There were still too few means of evidence for involvement in illegal death sentences.

Incidentally, the Ayatollah is known as a moderate clergyman. For example, he was the one who abolished stoning in Iran during his tenure (1999-2009).
