At least 26 dead by attack in Burundi

An armed gang attacked a village in Burundi and killed at least 26 inhabitants.

According to Bunyoni, the perpetrators were Congolese terrorists, who immediately crossed the border after the attack. Burundi has asked the Congolese authorities to track down and arrest the murderers, all around twenty and dressed in military uniforms. Their motive is unclear, as well as to which group they belong.

Possibly they were mainly out to sow unrest. In Burundi, 17 May a controversial referendum is held on an extension of the presidential term to seven years. Human rights organizations believe that the polls will not be free and fair.
