Army Egypt claims to kill 16 militants

In an action against extremists, the Egyptian army killed sixteen militants and arrested more than thirty others.

At the end of November, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered a campaign against extremists in Sinai. A branch of Islamic State (IS) is active in that region. He decided to do the operation after an attack on a mosque on the peninsula. That required at least three hundred lives.

After that terror action Sisi said that Sinai should be 'stabilized' within a few months.
