Army chief North Korea executed

The North Korean army chief General Ri Yong-gil was executed this month.

Since 2013 the general was chief of the general staff of the Korean People's Army. He is due to self-enrichment and corruption put to death.

Ri Yong-gil was often seen during inspections of the armed forces by dictator Kim Jong-un. However, he was suddenly no longer there when for instance, celebrations were held to mark the launch on Sunday of a long-range missile.

He was not on the published list of key participants. In his place was named General Ri Myong-su. Which would now be the successor of the executed officer.
