Arctic toothed whale found in the Scheldt

When a lock in the Scheldt was found dead narwhal.

The washed ashore narwhal is a young man of two meters and a tusk of half a meter, said the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences Thursday. Adult males can be 4 to 5 meters. And that was reckoned without the tusk, which can be up to three meters long.

The animal was spotted by two hikers, at least 100 kilometers from the North Sea removed. Presumably the animal died a few weeks earlier. The corpse is decomposing and should be transferred to the University of Ghent for autopsy. Then the skeleton go to the Museum of Natural Sciences in Brussels.

In the Netherlands found a narwhal once in 1912.
