Apartment Jimi Hendrix open to public

London apartment where the legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix lived more than 45 years ago, has been opened to the public.

Hendrix moved into the apartment on the top floor of 23 Brook Street in July 1968 after his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham saw an ad in a newspaper that it was for rent. The adjacent building lived a few centuries earlier the composer George Frideric Handel.

Hendrix, who died in 1970 at the age of 27, wrote music, played guitar and gave interviews. He told Etchingham that his first real home was and decorated with bright curtains, cushions and lots of ornaments.

The apartment in the chic Mayfair district in London underwent a restoration that lasted two years and cost 2.4 million pounds. It is now part of the heritage Handel amp; Hendrix in honor of the two musicians.
