Antarctic ozone hole suddenly big

The hole in the ozone layer over the South Pole has unexpectedly grown to the second largest size ever measured.

The size of the hole varies during the year and reached in the fall always the greatest form. In recent years, the ozone layer seemed to have stabilized somewhat but that is broken by the youngest decrease.

The hole is according to scientists in 2014 compared to 2.5 million square kilometers increased. It measures about 26 million square kilometers, making it larger than the North American continent. In 2006 the largest hole was measured 27 million square kilometers was great.
