American town in zombiewas bears

The town of Youngstown in Ohio is in the grip of local raccoons who seem to have lost all fear of the people.

The beasts walk after residents and pets, slobbering their teeth and sometimes even go over to the attack. Because they sometimes lethargic lie down to continue afterwards, the locals have renamed the animals into zombie wax bears.

The cause must be sought in a condition that is also called canine sickness. This is a brain infection with symptoms that resemble rabies. Eventually the beasts get paralyzed and die.

It is therefore not a condition that is unique to raccoons. Even dog and even felines can contract the disease.
