Ambassadors South Korea arrived in North Korea

A group of special envoys from South Korea arrived on Monday in neighboring North Korea.

The communist north and the prowestern south have been at war since 1950. Since 1953 there is an armistice, but it is regularly violated and the tension often rises.

Immediately after the two-day visit to North Korea, the envoys will travel to the United States. In Washington they report on the meeting in the North Korean capital Pyongyang. South Korea hopes that the visit also contributes to discussions between North Korea and the US.

The consultation between the two countries is intended as a follow-up to the visit by a North Korean delegation to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang last month.
