Alliance Prime Minister Iraq and spiritual leader

The parties of the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and spiritual leader Moqtada al-Sadr will form an alliance.

The political block of the nationalist clergyman Moqtada al-Sadr received the most votes in the parliamentary elections in May. The block from Abadi ended in third place in that ballot box. A week and a half ago, Sadr had already reached agreement on cooperation with militia leader Hadi al-Amiri. His political block ended second in the elections.

Sadr presents himself as a nationalist who opposes the influence of both Iran and the US in Iraq. Abadi is more moderate on that point.

It is not known whether Sadr, Abadi and Amiri are now going to work together with the three of them to form a government. Abadi and Sadr announced that the door to cooperation is also open to other parties.
