Albert Heijn discriminates at age

The supermarket chain Albert Heijn has been found guilty of age discrimination.

The case was brought to the attention of Everybody, a bureau that is strong for equal treatment. The agency was of the opinion that Albert Heijn is largely and structurally guilty of age discrimination in recruitment and selection of staff.

The direct reason was a complaint about a vacancy for a caissière at an Albert Heijn store in Nijmegen, for which a student was asked. Also at another office in Nijmegen on a sign at the door was the following text: 'Are you 16-17 years, ask for a job application form here?' Discrimination, Everybody Finds.

Albert Heijn does not agree with that. The supermarket chain thinks that for the vacancies it is possible to ask specifically for pupils or young people, because experience shows that especially those target groups are applying for jobs.
