Al-Sadr gets 54 seats in Iraqi parliament

The political block led by the Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr comes with 54 seats in the Iraqi parliament and is clearly the largest group.

Shortly after the official results were published, Sadr responded via social media: 'Reform wins and corruption disappears'. The populist, who must have nothing from the United States and no Iranian influence in Iraq, can not become a prime minister himself because he did not participate in the elections in a personal capacity.

Sadr can, on behalf of his alliance, be a leading figure in the government negotiations and the choice of a prime minister. The other large parties must agree to this. Abadi was Sadr's target during the campaign and Hadi al-Amiri is the foreman of al-Fatih. He is close to Iran and sent over an umbrella organization of paramilitaries who played a key role in defeating Islamic State.
