Al Qaeda loyalty to Taliban chief

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri has declared himself loyal to Haibatullah Akhundzada, the new leader of the Afghan Taliban.

The Taliban were from 1996 to 2001 in power in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda flourished during the same period and prepared including in Afghanistan, the attacks of September 11, 2001 for.
