Agent who sacrificed himself in hostage death

Arnaud Beltrame, the policeman who voluntarily let himself be held hostage by a terrorist in exchange for the release of the others and was seriously injured, has died.

'He saved many lives,' said French President Emmanuel Macron about Beltrame. Collomb spoke of 'a heroic act. '

The man who held the attendees in a supermarket on Friday is the 26-year-old Moroccan Redouane Lakdim. He shot three people and wounded sixteen before he was shot by French security forces himself.

He was known to the police for minor crimes. He was not seen as an Islamic threat.
