Again unrest in Tunisia: hundreds of arrests

For the third evening and night in a row, Tunisia was troubled by protests against tax increases, unemployment and price rises.

The army sent troops to Thala, for example, at the border with Algeria, after demonstrators had set fire to a building of the National Security Service and the police had to retire according to witnesses. The army was also deployed to protect government buildings in, among other places, the tourist resort of Sousse and the cities of Kebili and Bizerte.

Tunisia is generally seen as the only democratic success story among the countries of the Arab Spring. But since the overthrow of the authoritarian leader Zine el Abidine Ben Ali in 2011, the country also counted nine governments, none of which have been able to cope with the growing economic problems.
