Again kidnappers lynched in India

An angry mob has lynched five people in India who were mistaken for kidnappers who targeted children.

The five people killed were possibly traveling beggars who had settled in the village. There were rumors circulating about a gang of kidnappers who would be active in the area. A source within the police says to the newspaper Hindustan Times that suspicious villagers attacked their victims with sticks and stones.

The police have now arrested at least fifteen suspects. Other people involved may have fled after a video of the violence went viral on social media. Such killings are more common in India, where fake news circulates about kidnapper gangs on social media.
