Again arrests on Maldives

The Maldives police have arrested another 25 people, including a few journalists, on appeal to the state of emergency.

The state of emergency in the Indian Ocean, especially known for its luxury holiday homes, was declared on February 5 for fifteen days. This was followed by a decision by the Supreme Court to release nine prominent opponents.

Shortly thereafter, President Abdulla Yameen had two supreme judges and his predecessor Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in the clutches. They are accused of fundraising to overthrow the government.
