Additional tax for former parliamentarians Hong Kong

Four outlawed parliamentarians from Hong Kong have to pay a substantial additional tax.

A special committee ruled that former parliamentarians must repay Nathan Law, Lau Siu-lai, Leung Kwok-hung and Edward Yiu up to 3.1 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 332,000 euros). They get four weeks to respond. 'This is pure political persecution', the 24-year-old Law responded to a joint press conference.

The parliamentarians had to leave earlier this year because of an incident concerning their swearing in. They added words to their oath, slowly read or changed their intonation. According to the court, it turned out that they refused to swear allegiance to China.
