200 million for abuse victims

The Catholic Church in Australia has paid converted 200 million compensation over the decades to thousands of people who as children in schools and institutions were sexually abused by clergy.

On average, each victim received 91 000 Australian dollars (66. 000). That says an official committee to identify the abuse.

Since 1980 the church returned a total of 276 million Australian dollars from. More than 4,400 men and women have been reported so far that they as children were abused by Catholic clergy. The actual number is probably higher. So far was paid to more than 3,000 people compensation. Hundreds of cases are still pending.

The commission was established in 2013. It also investigates abuse cases outside the Catholic Church.
