19,000 migrants returned from Greece

Last year, more than 19,000 migrants from Greece returned to their homeland.

That's what a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

Most of them came from Albania, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the North African states. They are people whose asylum applications have been rejected or who have seen no chance of having asylum.

The IOM offers migrants a return journey under the protection of the safety authorities. Before they get on the plane, they get between 500 euros and 1500 euros to pick up life in their homeland again.

Approximately 60,000 migrants are currently registered in Greece. They usually live in refugee camps.
