ANKARA - Turkey's negotiations with Russia regarding the purchase of the S-400 rocket defense system have reached 'a final stage'. The choice of NATO member Turkey for a Russian defense system does not mean that an agreement is signed immediately, said Defense Minister Fikri Isik on Friday.
Isik told a press conference that NATO countries did not offer 'financially effective' offer for an alternative defense system. By 2015, Turkey saw a China quote for a $ 3.4 billion rocket system. Turkey then said to consider developing a defense system itself, but later saw it.
'It is clear that Turkey needs a missile defense system,' said Isik. He added that the S-400 could not integrate into the NATO system.
