geneva - The mainland of Antarctica is 17.5 degrees Celsius officially reached a new height record. This was announced by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) of the United Nations.

The record was measured at March 24, 2015 in the Argentine research station Esperanza, near the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. The previous record was 15 degrees Celsius, measured on January 15, 1974 at Vanda Station.

It is not unusual that it takes years before the exact temperature is disclosed. The meteorological data from weather stations must be checked carefully.
