More migrants reach Greek islands

World March 20, 2017 11:39

athens - Unusually many migrants are the last three days arrived in boats on the Greek islands in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea. From Friday to Monday 443 people reached the islands, reported the Greek authorities.

In the first two weeks of this month were only about 35 people illegally crossing daily from the Turkish coast to Greece. The Greek coastguard attributes the rise to the good weather.

Athens holds the number of incoming refugees sharp eye. A year ago, the EU and Turkey signed a deal to stem the flow of migrants. Turkish politicians have lately the agreement into question because of the increased tensions between Turkey and the EU countries, the Netherlands and Germany on the non-granting of campaigns for the Turkish referendum.
