ZAGREB - The fire brigade in Croatia has the hands full of forest fires on the Adriatic coast. Also on the Dutch popular peninsula of Istria there are fires, including in the historic city of Pula. People in the vicinity of the fires have to leave their homes, victims have not fallen.
Other fires were near the coastal city of Split and and to the islands of Pag and Vir. Along the kilometer long coast of Croatia there are forest fires every summer, but this time they are particularly hot. The strong northern wind makes the extinguishers difficult. The authorities have issued a warning for the use of open fire.
Forest fires are also raging in neighboring countries of Bosnia and Montenegro.
